Protecting & Empowering Mitindo Albinism Center.

Mitindo Outreach

Tanzania is thought to have the largest population of albinos in Africa. At Mitindo, children live in a protected environment to stay safe from those who would cause them harm due to superstition.

The school hosts more than 160 children, three-quarters of whom are albino. These children live under protected conditions in special camps. Our team, driven by love and empathy, visited to provide support and education.

We shared lessons on oral hygiene and provided each child with toothbrushes, paste, and soaps. We also discussed puberty and provided girls with sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene education.

One of the most special moments was hosting a birthday party for a child who had never celebrated one. It was a reminder to these children that they deserve a life of joy and that society has not forgotten them.

"Most of us had someone to teach us basic things, but these children often have no parent around to encourage them. We vowed to return with medical supplies like antifungal creams and sunglasses."
